LeBron James Reached Out To Klay Thompson At Start Of Free Agency

Klay Thompson is receiving interest in free agency from the Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Lakers. Thompson receiving a recruiting pitch from LeBron James when free agency opened.

"LeBron James, I'm told, called Klay Thompson right when free agency opened at 6:00 PM eastern," said Adrian Wojnarowski on Sports Center.

James is open to taking less money if the Lakers are able to sign an impact players in free agency. Thompson is one of the three players who have been publicly mentioned as potential targets. James Harden and Jonas Valanciunas, the other two players linked with the strategy, have committed to other teams.

Wojnarowski expects talks on Thompson to go into Monday without a resolution on Sunday evening. Thompson, who is represented by Greg Lawrence, is coming off a five-year, $190 million contract agreed upon in 2019 following his ACL tear in Game 6 of The Finals. In 77 games last season, Thompson averaged 17.9 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists while shooting 38.7 percent on three-pointers.
