The Los Angeles Lakers are heading in a new direction after trading big man Anthony Davis on Saturday to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for superstar guard Luka Doncic. This blockbuster deal seemingly came out of nowhere, but the Purple and Gold are getting a very special player to pair with LeBron James.
After completing the trade, the Lakers released an awesome AD tribute video on Monday that will give every NBA fan the chills:

Los Angeles traded for Davis way back in 2019, sending the likes of Lonzo Ball and Brandon Ingram to the New Orleans Pelicans in return for the center. While he dealt with a lot of injuries during his time with the Lakers, AD did help the franchise win their 17th championship in 2020, beating the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals in the Orlando Bubble in the pandemic year.
The departure of Davis leaves a gaping hole in the LA frontcourt. Sure, he wasn’t always healthy, but when on the floor, the Kentucky product is an absolute force on both ends of the court. He’s one of the best defenders in the Association at the five and can do it all offensively, too. The Lakers have no immediate replacement for him at center, therefore it’s likely they will trade for one ahead of this week’s deadline.
Jonas Valanciunas is one name on their radar, while the Lakers have also shown interest in the past in both Walker Kessler and Myles Turner. Jakob Poeltl, Mitchell Robinson, and Nikola Vucevic are other options as well. Adding another big is an absolute necessity for the team if they want to stay competitive in the second half.
Davis finishes his Lakers career with averages of 24.8 points, 11 rebounds, and 3.2 assists. He made three All-Star appearances as a member of the organization as well.
