Lakers' Jeanie Buss calls out Anthony Davis for 'complaining' before Luka Doncic trade

The Los Angeles Lakers put the sports world on its head after finalizing a trade, sending Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Luka Doncic. The deal was rather controversial, but L.A. is now in second place in the Western Conference and looking like a true contender. Meanwhile, the Mavericks are fighting for a play-in spot while dealing with numerous injuries.
In the aftermath, Lakers president Jeanie Buss recently opened up about the trade. While discussing past trades that caused a similar controversial reaction, Buss let it known that Davis was “complaining about where he was being played and he wasn’t happy,” according to A Martinez and Phil Harrell of NPR. Buss believes that everybody involved got what they wanted, despite the league questioning why the Mavericks only negotiated trade talks with the Lakers.
“We gave up a lot to get Luka Doncic. We’re happy we have him. We have lost the last three years in a row to the Denver Nuggets in the playoffs, and we really didn’t have anything that was going to look different going into the playoffs again.
“Anthony Davis was complaining about where he was being played, and he wasn’t happy. So, I think this was a positive for both teams. They got what they were looking for; we got what we were looking for. And I didn’t realize it was going to be international news like it was, but that’s the power of the Laker brand and its ability to draw big names who want to write their own chapter in Lakers history.”
Davis made his debut with the Mavericks on Feb. 8. Unfortunately, that’s the only game the 31-year-old forward has played for his new team as he’s been dealing with an adductor strain. It’s unclear whether or not he’ll return to action after Kyrie Irving sustained a season-ending ACL tear in Monday’s 122-98 loss to the Sacramento Kings.
As for the Lakers, the team is playing extremely well. Pairing Doncic with LeBron James seems to be working, as Los Angeles is on a seven-game winning streak. L.A. is set to take on the New York Knicks on Thursday with the hopes of extending the win streak to eight games.
