Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James rocked an eye-opening Luka Doncic t-shirt ahead of his debut against the Utah Jazz on Monday. The Lakers pulled off the most shocking trade in NBA history when they put together a deal for the generational point guard. Now, LeBron James will be on the same floor without perhaps the greatest player he’s ever teamed up with.
In addition, the Lakers now have a 25-year-old superstar to build around for the next decade. LeBron couldn’t contain his excitement about his new teammate’s debut, donning a pregame outfit that gave a shoutout to Los Angeles’ latest addition.

The vibes in LA are immaculate right now
The reality of this trade is sinking in, and it’s a scary proposition for the rest of the league. The main caveat is that the Lakers are painfully flawed at the big-man position right now. The organization tried to address this weakness by trading for Hornets center Mark Williams. However, that deal was shockingly rescinded a few days later.
With several elite big men in the West on contenders like Nikola Jokic, Jarren Jackson Jr, Chet Holmgren, and Alperen Sengun, this weakness could cost the Lakers in the postseason. That said, the vibes are still very high for this team. The Lakers are heading into tonight’s game on a five-game winning streak, having gone 9-1 in their past ten games.
At 31-19 and fifth in the Western Conference, this franchise looks destined to avoid the Play-In for the first time in years. In addition, even with the absence of Anthony Davis, the defense has recently taken a significant step up. Unless Los Angeles gets someone from the buyout market, it looks like Jaxson Hayes will be the starting center for now. The sixth-year player out of Texas is coming off a very encouraging performance against the Indiana Pacers.
Regardless of this roster’s flaws, now is a very exciting time to be a Lakers’ fan. Los Angeles just added a consensus top-five player in the league who potentially has not reached his prime yet. And two of the highest basketball IQs are about to be on the floor together. Looking at the top team in the Western Conference right now, the Oklahoma City Thunder, Doncic and James are a matchup nightmare for that roster in a hypothetical series.
The rest of the league might hate to admit it but it’s true. The Los Angeles Lakers are a legit title contender again. And tonight will be the first look of this new roster and the future face of this storied franchise.
