The Los Angeles Lakers may not have come into the season with much fanfare regarding their hopes of winning a championship. But their excellent maneuverings prior to the trade deadline have drastically changed the outlook surrounding the team. Their blockbuster trade for Luka Doncic has sparked so much hype, deservedly so, and even LeBron James couldn’t contain just how excited he is to team up with one of the best players in the association — and one of the most decorated ever at age-25.

But it’s not as if it’s only Doncic who has been drumming up the hype for the Lakers. Austin Reaves has been playing at such an excellent level as of late, putting up the best performance of his career in a 45-point outburst against the Indiana Pacers, and with this three-headed monster at the point of attack, James could only thank his lucky stars that the Lakers are on this upward trajectory — expressing his gratitude with an epic Instagram post.

For the first time in his career, James is part of a big three in which all of them can handle the rock, shoot the ball, and manufacture some buckets for the team, both for themselves and for others. Reaves’ ascent has been particularly impressive; as one would recall, he was undrafted coming out of Oklahoma, so for him to blossom into this dynamic of a scorer and playmaker is nothing short of an incredible development.

But still, it’s the arrival of Doncic that changes things a lot for the Lakers. The 25-year-old star has proven himself to be one of the greatest performers in postseason history, and with James by his side, there is no telling just how far this iteration of the Purple and Gold can go.

The Lakers have gone 9-1 over their past 10 games, so even before the arrival of Luka Doncic via trade, they have already been playing at an excellent level. But the team appears to have gone to an entirely different level ever since finalizing the Doncic acquisition, with Doncic not having to come in and be at his best for the team to be a dominant outfit.

The Lakers’ center depth chart may not be the best, but Doncic and LeBron James have a track record of leading even undermanned teams deep into the playoffs. With Austin Reaves functioning as the team’s third star, the sky is the limit for this team.
