Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James is excited about the team’s new make-up. The Lakers made headlines around the world for trading for Luka Doncic. Then in quieter fashion, the team bulked up the front court by adding center Mark Williams.
James is not worried at all about team chemistry, in light of the recent trades.
“I don’t really see a challenge,” James said to reporters in the locker room, per ESPN. “Everybody getting in the right spots. Hold each other accountable.”
Los Angeles parted ways with veteran big man Anthony Davis, in order to get Doncic from the Dallas Mavericks. That trade left the squad pretty depleted up front, so the club immediately made a deal with the Hornets. For Williams, the Lakers traded Cam Reddish, Dalton Knecht and draft picks.
Los Angeles is now 30-19 on the season.
The Lakers hope to make a push to the NBA Finals this year
The Lakers made the moves to try and find the right combination to win another NBA title. Clearly, James is nearing the end of his playing days, and the team hopes he has another championship left in him.
Adding Doncic clearly gives the team another scoring threat. He has yet to suit up for the team, and may not be good to go until at least Monday. Losing Davis though hurts the team’s ability to protect the rim and rebound. Williams will clearly help fill the gap.
“All is well, all is positive,” Lakers coach JJ Redick said about Doncic, per ESPN. “And hopefully we get the word at some point in the next few days that he is going to play. We all want to see him in a Laker uniform.”
This season, Williams was averaging 16 points and close to 10 rebounds for the Hornets. Before the Lakers traded for him, the big man had seven double-doubles in his last 11 games. The Lakers and their fans are hoping for that type of production, night after night.
With Davis gone, James is leaned on for even more offensive production. The Lakers veteran is averaging 24.7 points per game, and was the second leading scorer on the team behind Davis. Los Angeles clearly has big shoes to fill with Davis no longer there.
Redick thinks Doncic can add a lot of strength to the team’s offense.
“There’s work to be done once he’s back and healthy and in the lineup and that’s going to be fun. It’s going to be fun to figure it all out together,” Redick added.
Los Angeles next plays Indiana Saturday. The team is riding a four-game winning streak.
