Former Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is still reelingfrom the aftereffects of selling the team in 2023. As if that, plus Cuban’s astonishment at the trading of Luka Doncic, wasn’t enough, he is feeling the heat from a former Mavericks employee, even though the trade occurred after Cuban sold the franchise.

In a back-and-forth Facebook exchange, Cuban blatantly lashed out at former event and venue manager Gavin Mulloy, who posted on his page, “Cuban should be run out of Dallas,” per Jacob Ortiz of Legion Hoops.

Cuban asked Mulloy how big of a bonus he received after he sold the team. Mulloy replied, “Not enough to make up for the Luka trade. I’d give your dirty $$ back for Luka to be here; how about you?” That alone set Cuban off, as he laid out in a lengthy response that Mulloy wasn’t complaining when Cuban was paying his salary.

Cuban criticized Mulloy as he tried to defend his record and decision to sell the team.

“I didn’t want my kids and family to have to deal with people like you,” he responded. “I honestly got tired of the growing number of fans who became pricks on social media. People exactly like you.”

Cuban became a cultural icon when he first acquired the Mavericks in 2000. A polarizing presence known for his outrageous antics, he felt the heat elsewhere but was primarily appreciated in Dallas.

What changed now that he is no more?

Why is Mark Cuban the scapegoat

Cuban has been feeling the heat from fans for the Doncic trade due to our decisions in 2018. At the time, the Mavericks were primed to select Doncic as the third pick in the draft.

But they executed a trade with the Atlanta Hawks for the third pick in exchange for a future first-round selection. While Doncic became a popular franchise player, it came at a price, considering the Hawks got Trae Young, who became an all-star talent as well.

In the end, Cuban is taking heat, rightly or not, because he allegedly didn’t shore up Doncics’ security.

Cuban has called out the Mavericks’ ownership group for not following through on a promise to run basketball operations.
