Rockets Acquire AJ Griffin From Hawks For No. 44 Pick

The Houston Rockets have acquired AJ Griffin from the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for the No. 44 pick in the NBA draft. Houston is using the $4.5 million traded exception from the Kevin Porter Jr. deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder in order to make this trade.

Griffin was the No. 16 overall pick by the Hawks in the 2022 draft. Griffin appeared in 72 games as a rookie, averaging 8.9 points, 2.1 rebound and 1.0 assist in 19.5 minutes. Griffin appeared in just 20 games last season was was limited to 8.5 minutes per game.

Griffin is owed $3.9 million for 24-25 and the Rockets will hold a $6 million option for 25-26 that is exercisable by October 31. Griffin is represtned by Austin Brown, Steven Heumann and Max Saidman of CAA.

For the Hawks, they create a roster spot and also approach the luxury tax line depending on what they decide to do with Saddiq Bey's qualifying offer.
