The Toronto Raptors will be without its franchise star for the foreseeable future as the team announced on Wednesday that Scottie Barnes has suffered a right orbital fracture.
Barnes suffered the injury late in the fourth quarter of Monday’s overtime loss to the Denver Nuggets.
The fourth-year forwarded will be re-evaluated in three weeks, according to the team, with this latest injury putting a halt to an otherwise promising individual start to the season for Barnes. The one-time All-Star and former Rookie of the Year has been averaging 19.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, six assists and two blocks through the Raptors’ first four games of the season.
Barnes also missed the final 22 games of last season after suffering a hand injury in March.
It’s the latest in a slew of injuries for the Raptors who have opened the 2024-25 campaign with a 1-3 record. The 23-year-old joins an injury list that also includes Immanuel Quickley (pelvic contusion), Kelly Olynyk (back) and Bruce Brown (knee).
Toronto returns to action without Barnes to take on the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday.
