Spurs' De'Aaron Fox set to undergo season-ending surgery

After the San Antonio Spurs beat the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday, the excitement has dwindled as star point guard De’Aaron Fox will miss the rest of the season due to surgery he’ll get “for tendon damage in his left pinkie” according to Shams Charania. Now on top of the Spurs losing Victor Wembanyama for the season, Fox is now added to the list of woes for the team, though the future looks bright for the two stars.

While some might be surprised by the injury on Fox’s left pinkie finger, Charania would provide insight into the issue which apparently was sustained “during training camp in October.” This was when he was with the Sacramento Kings before being traded to San Antonio as though he was playing through it, the team decided to “expedite the healing process.”
“Fox suffered the tendon injury during training camp in October and played through the ailment all season,” Charania wrote on his X, formerly Twitter. “For the Spurs and Fox, the decision to undergo surgery now was made to expedite the healing process and gain offseason chemistry with the roster based on recovery.”
Spurs now without De’Aaron Fox and Victor Wembanyama
As the Spurs guard in Fox dealt with playing minus Wembanyama, the rest of the team will now be without both stars, which is no doubt a rough turn of events. Especially since Fox arguably had his best game in the new uniform as he finished with 32 points, 11 assists, and nine rebounds.
"It’s definitely difficult without Vic [Wembanyama],” Fox said according to ClutchPoints’ Spurs reporter Hector Ledesma. “At the end of the day, some of the best teams in the league, when their best players aren’t playing they still find a way to get wins.”

With the news that Fox will sit the rest of the season, he played just 17 contests for San Antonio as there is no doubt there will be high expectations for him and Wembanyama next year. The Spurs are 27-37 which puts them 12th in the Western Conference.
