The Dallas Mavericks’ decision to trade away Luka Doncic still continues to send shockwaves around the association. This just means that no one on the league is truly untouchable. Doncic is only 25 years old and yet is already a five-time All-NBA First Teamer, and every season, he has a case to win the MVP award. So for the Mavericks to trade him away, and for the return they got, was simply baffling, and this decision is putting every player on notice, even Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards.

One would think that the Timberwolves would not trade Edwards in a million years, except in a deal that would bring them back either Victor Wembanyama or Nikola Jokic. But with Doncic now headed to the Los Angeles Lakers, no one can ever be sure anymore of just how safe their standing is within the team. All Edwards is asking for from the Timberwolves front office, particularly president of basketball operations Tim Connelly, is a heads up in the event that Minnesota decides to trade him away.

“I'm scared. Tim [Connelly], if you're gonna trade me, let me know dawg,” Edwards said, eliciting a laugh from the room full of reporters, via Ahn Fire Digital on X (formerly Twitter). “If Luka got traded, anybody is able to get traded at that point.”

Edwards is simply spitting facts; the Mavericks’ decision to trade Doncic away is stupefying and defies any rational roster-building line of thinking. The Timberwolves star went as far as to suggest that a conspiracy could be in the works leading up to this bombshell development.

“Nobody knew about the trade. That’s crazy. At 25, they traded the best scorer in the NBA. At 25. He didn’t know about it. There’s a lot more digging somebody got to do to find out why he got traded. Coz you don’t just trade him at 25.

If there’s anyone who would know of Luka Doncic’s greatness firsthand, it’s Anthony Edwards. After all, Doncic put the Timberwolves to the sword in last year’s Western Conference Finals, even hitting an epic game-winner over Rudy Gobert.

But beyond last year’s run to the Finals, Doncic is one of the truly proven postseason performers in today’s NBA. Only Nikola Jokic might be scarier to face in the playoffs at present, as Doncic is a one-man wrecking crew when the calendar flips to April. Edwards then couldn’t help but feel bad that Doncic was on the receiving end of such treatment from the Mavs.

“He just went to the Finals. I feel bad for Luka man. That sucks,” Edwards added.
