A look back at Victor Wembanyama's unprecedented first 100 games

No player has done what Wemby has done in 100 games. What will he do next?
What a whirlwind couple of days it has been for Victor Wembanyama. Last night, he helped the Spurs kick off a tough January schedule with a thrilling win over Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets to cap off his 100th career NBA game, and today he turns 21 (a noteworthy date in the US since he is now of legal drinking age and can enjoy a fine glass of wine again). But more noteworthy is the 100 games part, so let's just dive right in a take a look at what an amazing stretch it has been.
First, let's just take a look at his numbers. So far, he has scored 2,273 points, 1,058 rebounds and 366 blocks in his career. The only other player to reach those numbers in his first 100 games? The one and only David Robinson (who, if anyone needs reminding, was 24 when he entered the league; Wemby was just 19).
Tonight was Victor Wembanyama's 100th career game.

He's totaled 2,273 PTS, 1,053 REB and 366 BLK through his first 100 games.

Tack on 286 assists and 225 three-pointers made for good measure, and he's the only player to reach those numbers in 100 games AT ALL. He also has 118 steals, which is pretty nice for a big.

Here's Jordan Howenstine and ExtraMuse with some pretty noteworthy names he's already ahead of with some of those statistics.
Victor Wembanyama is playing in his 100th game tonight. In first 100 career games he has more…

Points than LeBron, Durant, Carmelo
Rebounds than AD, Ewing, Embiid
Blocks than Shaq, Mutombo, Olajuwon
Threes than Curry, Klay, Trae Young
Victor Wembanyama has the 3rd-most blocks (365) and 11th-most threes (225) by a player in their first 100 career games.

He is the ONLY player in the top SIXTY (60!!) in both categories by career game #100.
Truly a one-of-a-kind. pic.twitter.com/b7xG6CJcKd

Pick whatever metric you want: Wemby's aging curve to start his career is hilarious- just a straight line upwards. pic.twitter.com/syQTR79zxf

Is Wemby already the best 3pt shooting rim protector in NBA history? He's certainly having the best season of all-time in that regard pic.twitter.com/yOcp7L1FJ6

Before yesterday's game, ESPN's Michael C. Wright compiled a list of all of the best moments of Wemby's career so far, so be sure to go check that out. In the meantime, enjoy some good old fashioned highlights to close things out.
One thing I know for sure is I felt a certain since of joy when the Spurs won the 2023 NBA lottery that I hadn't felt probably since they won the championship in 2024. As someone who is not outwardly emotional, I yelled and jumped up and down (before recomposing myself so I could get the article about it posted). Despite a rough first season from a winning standpoint, it was obvious from the outset that Wemby would be something special, and now it is all coming together — and we're just 100 games in.
Here's to many more years of Victor Wembanyama in a Spurs uniform! Félicitations et joyeux anniversaire! (Congratulations and Happy Birthday!)
