Game Thread: San Antonio Spurs vs Los Angeles Clippers
Today at 07:30 PM
It seems like it's been forever since the Spurs have played basketball, but it's happening tonight in San Antonio
Welcome to the Game Thread. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies we have a few rules. Our community guidelines apply and basically say be cool, no personal attacks, don't troll and don't swear too much.
The Spurs are finally back at work in San Antonio, and they hope to reverse their recent spate of poor games. The Silver and Black have lost 7 or their last nine, and trading blowouts with the Pacers in Paris wasn't enough to put them on the right track again. Tonight is the first game of a mini-homestand, with three games in four nights, all against tough opponents, ending with a back-to-back on Friday and Saturday against the Bucks and the Heat. The Clippers have lost 3 of their last 5 games, and the Spurs have a rest advantage (not counting jetlag) so tonight's game could be the best opportunity of stealing a win before they go on the road for 6 games against mostly Eastern Conference adversaries.
The Clippers always get extra attention from the Spurs fans when they visit San Antonio because one of their best players used to play in the Alamo City. For some reason, fans always boo that guy, even though it's getting on a decade since whatever happened happened. I get it, I'll boo too. But tonight will be a great time to see if Castle can continue his recent streak of solid play and move up on the rookie of the year ladder. Jeremy Sochan is back in action and we'll see if Mitch Johnson continues to use him as a small ball center or plays the versatile blue-haired wonder at a more conventional position, where he might be matched up on Kawhi Leonard on defense.
The Spurs and Clippers have already played twice this year, a 114-103 loss in LA where the Spurs blew a big first half lead, and a 122-86 blowout win on New Year's Eve in San Antonio. Hopefully, tonight's game is more like the second meeting than the first, but tonight Kawhi Leonard is in the lineup for the Clippers, which should increase the difficulty rating a bit.
Let's go, Spurs!
Game Prediction:
Kawhi Leonard is booed by the fans. Pretty much nobody notices.
One final word:
GO SPURS GOOOO!!!
