The also hired a new GM for Austin and assistant coach/director of player development for San Antonio.

He may have not played since 2023, but former Spur and fan favorite big man Gorgui Dieng has been seen hanging around the last organization he played for ever since he announced his retirement in December. First, he was a Basketball Operations Representative for the organization, and now, he has a new a position with as Assistant General Manager for the Austin Spurs.

His promotion was announced along with Josh Larson, who becomes the Austin Spurs' General Manager — a position previously held by former Spur Brent Barry before he accepted an assistant coaching job with the Phoenix Suns alongside Mike Budenholzer this summer. Mike Noyes, who spent the last six seasons with the Memphis Grizzles, was also announced as a new assistant coach and director of player development for the San Antonio Spurs.

Dieng only spent parts of two seasons with the Spurs at the tail end of his career, playing a total of just 41 games in Silver and Black, but just like everywhere else he has been, he was immediately beloved by all for his leadership and effort. Fans have been thrilled to see him continuing to hang around the organization, and it appears he won't be going anywhere else any time soon.

Welcome back, Gorgui!
