Highlights: Stephon Castle drops career-high 26 against the Grizzlies
01/16/2025 11:51 AM
Despite a career night from Steph, eight blocks from Wemby, and a double-digit lead at the half, the Grizzlies had an offensive explosion in the second half that could not be stopped.
Coming off of an impressive win versus the Los Angeles Lakers, the Spurs looked to use their momentum to defeat the Memphis Grizzlies at home. Like the Lakers game, this game was a tale of two halves. The Spurs outscored the Grizzlies 63-51 in the first half thanks to hot three-point shooting and Victor Wembanyama's eight blocks. However, the second half was dominated by Memphis. The Grizzlies outhustled and outscored the Spurs 78-52 in the second half, ultimately winning 129-115.
Stephon Castle dropped a season/career-high 26 points to go along with four assists and three rebounds. In his spot starts for Jeremy Sochan, Steph is playing with aggression and seems more comfortable playing the two-guard.

Victor Wembanyama had a near triple-double with blocks: 13 points, 12 rebounds, and eight blocks (all in first half). He also dropped two steals and two dimes. Vic was unstoppable on defense in the first half but seemed to be gassed in the second. He struggled from the field shooting 5 of 19, but he should bounce back in the rematch on Friday.
Vic drained three threes, including this one from the top of the key!

Devin Vassell had a solid game with 21 points, five rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Dev was efficient shooting 7 of 13 from the field (3 of 6 on threes), but was put to work on defense thanks to the fast Grizzlies squad.
Acrobat? Dev uses the Charles Bassey screen to drive past Jay Huff for the tough layup!

If Spurs fans didn't know already, the Grizzlies are third in the West for a reason. It's always tough when a team relinquishes a double-digit lead after halftime, but to lose by double digits after that? The Spurs clearly miss Jeremy Sochan on the defensive side of the ball. Another defender of his caliber to handle one-on-one matchups that Wemby seemed to take more than usual, would give him a breather from time to time. No need to sulk any longer, the rematch is Friday.
Finally, here are the full game highlights.
The Spurs take on the Memphis Grizzlies in a rematch at the Frost Bank Center this Friday at 8:30 P.M. (CST) on ESPN/FDSN-SW.
