The Admiral is known for much more than his basketball career

For me, David Robinson is the Spurs. It is a generational thing. I was a little too young to see George Gervin in his prime. My first recollection of going to a Spurs game was meeting Johnny Moore.

But when David Robinson postponed his NBA career to honor his commitment to serve his country, and then made his grand appearance in San Antonio two years later, the Spurs — in my humble opinion — began to take shape.

He retired winning a championship, which is the most fitting way to end his career. And he retired after handing the torch to Tim Duncan and leaving the Spurs in amazing shape.

But Robinson did not ride off into the sunset. He is a mainstay at Spurs home games from his second row seats across from the Spurs bench.

And David Robinson is a pillar in our community.

Following his Hall of Fame career with the San Antonio Spurs, Robinson co-founded the Admiral Capital Group and The Carver Academy, a public tuition-free charter school.

He has continued to be a part of the Spurs as a minority owner.

This November, The Admiral will be recognized for his philanthropic endeavors as he is inducted into the Texas Business Hall of Fame.

"The class of 2024 Inductees represent not only exceptional entrepreneurs but individuals who have leveraged their success to transform lives far outside the scope of their industries. Their servant leadership is the distinction of this award and what makes the honor so special — the combination of transformational economic impact and the wanting to use that impact to make the world better," said TBHF Chairman of the Board David Huntley.

Robinson will be honored at an induction dinner along with fellow 2024 inductees:

  • Michael M. Boone, Co-Founder and Senior Counsel, Haynes and Boone, LLP (Dallas)
  • Joe Gebbia, Co-Founder, Airbnb; Co-Founder Samara; Chairman, Airbnb.org (Austin)
  • Kathleen S. Hildreth, Co-Founder and Managing Director, M1 Support Services, LP (Denton)
  • David B. Miller, Co-Founder and Managing Partner, EnCap Investments L.P. (Dallas)
  • Taylor Sheridan, Film & TV Creator, Writer, Director, Producer, Bosque Ranch Productions; Owner, 6666 Ranch and Bosque Ranch; Founder, Four Sixes Ranch Brand Beef (Fort Worth)
