The potential number one pick is rumored to be visiting San Antonio before the draft.

We are less than two weeks away from the NBA Draft and the rumor mill is churning. Whispers of potential trades and landing spots for the 2024 Draft class are seeping onto everyone's social media timelines. The San Antonio Spurs are one of the most common teams mentioned in these rumors. They've especially been tied to another hyped french prospect.

This week, SKWEEK, a publication covering European basketball tweeted that potential first-overall pick, Zaccharie Risacher, is heading to the U.S. to workout with the Spurs and the Atlanta Hawks.

Risacher has been heavily featured in the discussion around the first pick to Atlanta. It makes sense why they would want to get the french wing in for a workout. But he's not the only prospect the Hawks have their eyes on. According to a recent report by Kevin O'Connor at The Ringer, the Hawks have explored trade down scenarios to target UCONN big man, Donovan Clingan. Whether these rumors are truth, or smokescreens, it's clear that Atlanta is doing it's due diligence with the number one pick.

This could mean a couple of things for the Spurs. If Risacher is the prospect they value the most, they could trade up with Atlanta to grab him at number one. Or they could have some indication that Risacher might not be Atlanta's preferred pick at number one, and take the chance he falls to their fourth overall selection. Either way, in a flat draft class, it makes sense for Brian Wright, Gregg Popovich and the Spurs front office to conduct their due diligence on all of the prospects at the top of their draft board.

Risacher isn't the only prospect the Spurs have worked out thus far. According to Hoops Hype's 2024 Draft Workout Tracker, San Antonio has met with the following prospects:

  • Zaccharie Risacher, JL Bourg
  • Tidjane Salaun, Cholet
  • Dillon Jones, Weber State
  • Jamal Shead, Houston
  • Trentyn Flowers, Adelaide (Australian NBL)
  • Tristen Newton, UCONN
  • Antonio Reeves, Kentucky
  • Boogie Ellis, USC
  • Jesse Edwards, West Virginia
  • Tristan Enaruna, Cleveland State
  • Aaron Estrada, Alabama
  • Blake Hinson, Pittsburgh
  • KJ Jones, Emmanuel (NCAA D2)
  • JT Toppin, New Mexico (withdrew from the draft)

There may be more prospects that have worked out for the Spurs, but these are the ones that have been reported on. Risacher and Salaun stick out as two French prospects who project to be lottery picks.
