Spurs fans will get not one, but TWO games on Christmas Day!
San Antonio and New York will get the Disney treatment on a simultaneous broadcast on Christmas morning
In a family-friendly intiative cheerily referred to as "Dunk the Halls," Disney, ESPN, and the NBA are collaborating on what they shared today as "the first real-time animated NBA game using Sony's Beyond Sports technology, Sports Illustrated has learned. Dunk The Halls will air at noon ET on Christmas Day on ESPN2 as an alternate option for the San Antonio Spurs-New York Knicks tilt and feature iconic Disney characters in a virtual live recreation of the on-court action."
As if there wasn't enough excitement about the Spurs resuming their rightful place on national television on Christmas, there will be a co-occuring virtual recreation of the Madison Square Garden action on ESPN2. I imagine that the league and networks will announce closer to the date each team's starting 'characters.'
In the meantime, I cannot wait to see which childhood icons inhabit our real-life Spurs roster's bodies! Just in case you'd like to come up with a list of your own, here's a list of Variety's Top 25 Disney characters. My unofficial wish list goes as follows:
Devin Vassell - Woody (because his jumper is reliable)
Stephon Castle - Buzz Lightyear ("To infinity and beyond" amirite?)
Victor Wemanyama - Simba ("oh I just can't wait to be King!"
Jeremy Sochan - Genie (from Aladdin) - I briefly thought Olaf from Frozen
Chris Paul - Mickey Mouse (I know I'm going to get in trouble for this)
Other rotation players:
Harrison Barnes - Donald Duck (the most dependable)
Julian Champagnie - Baloo (The Jungle Book)
Keldon Johnson - Tigger (c'mon)
Tre Jones - Tow Mater (Cars - the best teammate and friend a Spur could want)
Sandro Mamukelashvili - Goofy (for the humor, not the look)
Zach Collins - Scar (The Lion King) - our resident tough-guy
Blake Wesley - Lightning McQueen (Cars - well, you've seen him on a fast-break, right?)
Malaki Branham - Mike Wazowski (Monsters, Inc. - trying to always be more productive)
Honorary legend status would be granted to Boris Diaw, who would be Winnie the Pooh.
How about you, Pounders? How would you fill out your Disney-tinged San Antonio roster on this awesome day?
