2024 NBA draft: Grading OKC Thunder's selection of Nikola Topic

The Oklahoma City Thunder added Nikola Topic with the No. 12 pick of the 2024 NBA draft. The gifted lottery selection allowed OKC to add arguably the best playmaker with an important caveat.
The 18-year-old will be redshirted next season. He suffered a partially torn ACL and will be out all of his first year. It’s a double-edged sword as waiting a year will be excruciating but his untimely injury is likely the largest reason the Thunder had the chance to add him.
The Thunder can afford the risk as they are fresh off a first-seed finish. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams round out one of the best trios in the league.
