Lu Dort Heads For Restricted Free Agency After Thunder Decline $1.9M Option

The Oklahoma City Thunder have declined their $1.9 million team option for Lu Dort for the 2022-23 season. Dort will now be a restricted free agent on July 1. By declining Dort's option, the Thunder will be able to control his free agency process this offseason. Had OKC picked up Dort's option, he would have been eligible to be an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2023. It's unknown if the Thunder were influenced by the trouble the Dallas Mavericks have run into with keeping guard Jalen Brunson in 2022 free agency. Brunson was allowed to hit unrestricted free agency and will reportedly join the New York Knicks on a deal worth more than $100 million over four years.
