The Minnesota Timberwolves plan on retaining Karl-Anthony Towns despite the tax implications for the franchise, sources tell ESPN's Zach Lowe. Towns has long been connected to the New York Knicks if the Wolves ever decided to trade him, but their ability to make another major trade has effectively been eliminated following their acquisition of Mikal Bridges.

Towns is a CAA client, represented by Jessica Holtz, and also previously played for Tom Thibodeau.

Towns signed a four-year, $224 million supermax extension with the Wolves during the 2022 offseason. The Wolves have a trio of expensive bigs in Towns, Rudy Gobert and Nan Reid, which has led to speculation that one could be traded to alleviate their payroll and luxury tax issues for a franchise that doesn't generate as much revenue as some of their big market counterparts.

When the Wolves were eliminated from the Western Conference Finals, Towns expressed a hope and confidence that he would remain with the franchise.
