Fingers crossed.
The Golden State Warriors have been hit hard by the injury bug this year, and Saturday night provided yet another hit. Late in the second quarter of their game against the Memphis Grizzlies, fourth-year forward Jonathan Kuminga hit the deck after rolling his ankle under the hoop. Kuminga immediately motioned to the bench, stood up, and limped his way straight to the locker room where he remained until halftime. He was followed by team trainer Rick Celebrini.
It's not yet clear if Kuminga will return to the game, though it seems unlikely. We'll update this story as the team provides updates.
Kuminga has emerged as the team's second-best scorer behind Steph Curry, and has played a huge role lately as their sixth man and offensive spark plug. At the time of his injury, the athletic forward led the team with 13 points while shooting 4-for-6 from the field (including a perfect 3-for-3 from deep) and 2-for-4 on free throws. He also had two rebounds and two assists, though he committed four turnovers.
With Curry sidelined for the game due to knee injury management, Kuminga's offensive contributions are vital. He'll be very much missed if he's unable to return to the game, or if he has to miss additional time.
