What a great friendship.

It's been an exciting year of basketball in the United States. The 2024 WNBA season began well before the 2023-24 NBA season ended, and took a break for the Paris Olympics — where the Team USA women's basketball team dominated en route to a gold medal, and the Team USA men's basketball team pulled out the theatrics en route to their gold.

The WNBA season culminated with arguably the best WNBA Finals in league history, which went the maximum of five games, before concluding on Sunday when the New York Liberty beat the Minnesota Lynx in overtime to secure the first title in franchise history. Basketball fans got just a one-day break before the NBA season began on Tuesday evening with a TNT doubleheader, featuring stars like LeBron James, Jayson Tatum, and Anthony Edwards.

But while the Golden State Warriors will have to wait until Wednesday to begin their campaign, they were involved in the hectic action the last few days, thanks to Steph Curry's friendship with Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu.

Curry and Ionescu have known each other for a long time, dating back to the 2020 No. 1 overall pick starring at Miramonte High School in Orinda. Curry has been an open supporter of Ionescu's for a long time, and the duo had an epic head-to-head three-point contest at the 2024 NBA All-Star Weekend.

So it's no surprise that Curry reached out to congratulate Ionescu after she hoisted a trophy for the first time in her career. And it's no surprise that Ionescu, despite all the chaos that comes with a championship, made time for The Chef.

Speaking with Complex, Ionescu revealed that she and Curry FaceTimed during the Liberty's celebration ... and admitted that he was the only person outside of her family whose call she took.

It's a pretty cool cross-league relationship between two of the very best basketball players alive, who are both now champions. Now let's see if Curry can convince Ionescu to come home and play for the Golden State Valkyries...
