The main question most fans have had since the Los Angeles Lakers traded for Luka Doncic at the NBA trade deadline, is when will their new star make his debut in the purple and gold. It appears that time is drawing near as Luka Doncic received a big update on the Lakers' injury report, alongside their other star in LeBron James, ahead of the team's upcoming game against the Utah Jazz.
Luka Doncic and LeBron James were officially listed as questionable on the Lakers' injury report for their matchup against the Jazz on Monday. This is significant as Doncic has been listed as out in each game following the trade.
It's significant for James as well who was downgraded to out for the Lakers' last game against the Indiana Pacers, after initially being listed as doubtful. It would appear that both players are on track to return to the court at the same time.
Following the shocking trade, Doncic's original target date was this past Saturday against the Pacers, but Lakers head coach JJ Redick acknowledged that Monday against the Jazz was much more likely.
In addition to James and Doncic, Austin Reaves was listed as probable after his status for the Pacers game was in question. Reaves ended up playing and dropped a career-high 45 points.
Dalton Knecht returns to the Lakers
With the NBA trade deadline in the rearview, the madness wasn't over quite yet for the Lakers. Late Saturday evening, word came down that the trade between the Lakers and the Hornets was being rescinded. Simply put, the Lakers reportedly had concerns over Mark Williams' long-term health, causing them to withdraw from the trade.
As a result, both Dalton Knecht and Cam Reddish were coming back to the Lakers. While no status update was given for Reddish, Knecht was also listed on the team's injury report, alongside James and Doncic, as questionable.
Prior to the trade, Knecht had shown flashes of being a solid player, albeit dealing with the normal ups and downs of being a rookie in the NBA. He had appeared in 48 games, including 12 starts, at a little over 20 minutes per game.
Knecht had been averaging 9.4 points and 3.1 rebounds with splits of 46.5 percent shooting from the field, 35.8 percent shooting from the three-point line and 82.5 percent shooting from the free-throw line.
The rookie out of Tennessee had shown his ability to be a knock-down three-point shooter, and alongside elite passers in James and now Doncic, don't be shocked to see his percentage rise.
