However, the key for this team going forward will be whether Davis or Irving can be reliable first options and whether Kyrie can consistently run the offense as the point guard.
While Irving has had another elite scoring season, his assists per game have been the lowest in nearly a decade. The Mavericks have tried upping their assist rate by committee, but their percentage is still among the lowest in the league. The ball is bound to be in Irving’s hands more in the postseason. He must keep up his scoring while consistently getting others involved if Dallas wants to repeat as Western Conference champs.
Still, there is plenty of reason for the Mavericks to be optimistic right now. They are about to add one of the best players in the NBA and are pulling out all the stops to win a title in 2025. But to realistically do that, this team must start piling up the wins immediately.
