Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic has been dealing with various injury concerns throughout the postseason. He’s battled knee and ankle trouble. Doncic is now dealing with a thoracic contusion.

According to the NBA injury report for Game 5, Doncic is listed as probable with the thoracic contusion. He’s been listed as probable or questionable for a significant portion of the 2024 postseason, yet Luka has been in every game so far.

Doncic addressed his injury concerns while speaking to reporters on Sunday.

“At this point in the season, a lot of things going on,” Doncic said. “If I'm playing, I'm fine. So no worries.”

Doncic is not worried. He’s expressed a desire to play regardless of the circumstances in reference to his injury status. There have seemingly been some close calls where Luka was listed as questionable, but the Mavs star has no intention of missing a postseason contest if he can avoid it.

Luka Doncic’s final injury status will be announced later in the day on Monday. Barring a significant setback, the expectation is that Doncic will be on the floor once again. Doncic and the Mavericks are looking to make NBA Finals history and complete a 3-0 comeback over the Boston Celtics.

Doncic has made it clear that he believes the Mavericks can still win the series. Luka understands that the odds are not in Dallas’ favor. Nevertheless, he is still confident in the team.

“Yeah, we talk about it. I think the most important thing is to show that we believe,” Doncic said. “I think we showed in Game 4. If not, if we wouldn’t believe, we probably wouldn’t have won that game. So I think obviously the talk is easy to talk about it, but then showing it is another thing. I think we showed it.”

In order for the Mavericks to win, they will need a complete team effort. Of course, Dallas will also benefit from a big game from Kyrie Irving.

Kyrie played well in front of the Mavericks home fans over the past two games. However, he struggled to begin the series in Games 1 and 2 in Boston. Irving revealed what it will take to get settled in for Game 5 against the Celtics on the road.

“We just have to wait and see tomorrow, man,” Irving said. “You know, change a few things up. Be prepared for what I’m getting myself into. My teammates, most importantly, and not making this about me or getting into the energy with anyone else other than my teammates. That’s about it.”

Game 5 of the NBA Finals should be an exciting affair. The Celtics are still in the driver’s seat. A Mavericks win, though, would send the series back to Dallas for Game 6.

And that would certainly make things interesting as the Mavs try to make history.
